From: Karla McIntire Date: Mon, Sep 10, 2007 at 02:16:57PM -0500: Subj: unit letter Hello All, I just wanted to touch base with everyone about the Fall Camporee that is scheduled for September 21-23. I am planning on being down to the Eau Claire Airport by 5:00pm or so. We will have camping areas divided up according to the number of people that you have registered. Please remember that IF you are planning on having camp fires, that it is in a “noncombustible receptacle made and designed for such a purpose” and that they are not to be used to burn “plastics, trash, garbage or other products that might produce noxious fumes” and to “Check to make sure that your campfire is at least 10-15 ft from any combustible items”—all this per Eau Claire city code. Basically your unit needs to practice LNT guidelines, like you always do, and you will be fine. Please plan on having a few members of the EAA eating with you during the day on Saturday (breakfast for sure and maybe lunch). They normally meet for breakfast at the restaurant in the airport, but I offered for them to join the Troops for breakfast as most Troops have a menu consisting of pancakes or french toast, eggs, bacon or sausage or some other concoctions. They will be arriving around 8:00am so please make sure breakfast is ready for them when they get there as we are going to get underway about 9:00am or so. Your unit will be given a schedule of events upon registration. You may register that evening or in the morning, when ever your unit gets there. Please just come and find me at some point. We will be getting under way by 9:00am with our opening flag ceremony and a FULL day of events to follow. Scouts will be broken up into groups and rotated between different requirements that will include a tour of the airport and towers (req 4a and 5), building a FPG-9 (req 3b). There will be “classroom” type instruction for req. 1a,b,c,d and e by the EAA and they will also be conducting 2 requirements for #2. At this point, we are planning on getting as many boys in the air as possible (weather permitting and # of pilots). IF the EAA is not able to accommodate all those that have permission to fly, they will make arrangements for future fly dates. Even if we are not able to fly, the Scouts attending should still be able to complete the merit badge or be very close to completion by the end of the day on Saturday. Between 3-3:30 we will then go over to Chippewa Falls (directions will be given at registration) for an awesome R/C air show at Larry Johnson’s field with the South Fork Flyers. I’m sure that even the biggest kids will be wowed. When we fist arrive we will break up into groups to have a brief talk on safety while working with these crafts. Attached to this letter you will find a copy of the parental permission form that MUST be signed and filled out in order for Scouts to fly. NO PERMISSION FORM, NO FLIGHT! NO EXCEPTIONS!! Please make copies for those Scouts that may need it. I am asking that all units call or email me so that I know how many Scouts have permission to fly. Please get this information to me by Monday, Sept 17th so that a final schedule of events can be made up (I do not need the permission slips until registration, I just need #’s). My phone # is 715-669-5954 –please leave me a message if you get voice mail. My email is funmacseven@hotmail.com. Please remember to bring a dining cover, tables and chairs as we are camping in an open field. The ground that we will be sleeping on is pretty rocky so you may want to pack an extra pad or two to sleep on. Please bring your water in. There is water available for refills, but the Airport is on city water and has to pay for the water that is used. They are doing us a big favor by allowing us to be there and we do not want to incur a lot of extra cost for them. There will be port-a-potties available for use. Please do NOT use the bathrooms in the airport unless you are in the airport for instruction/tour. Please contact me if you have any questions. We will see everyone on the 21st/22nd. Karla McIntire
