PRESS RELEASE

David Arneberg to be awarded Eagle Scout rank

Eagle Court of Honor scheduled for Sunday, April 13, 2014

The highest award from the Boy Scouts of America -- the rank of Eagle Scout -- will be awarded Sunday, April 13 to a Scout in Troop 72 of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

David Arneberg, 17, will receive the Eagle Award in a Court of Honor ceremony at 1:30 p.m. that Sunday at Chippewa Valley Bible Church, 531 E. South Ave., Chippewa Falls. All are welcome.

David is the son of Tom and Beth Arneberg of Chippewa Falls. He is a senior at "Chi-Hi" (Chippewa Falls Senior High School) where he is second team all-conference and captain of both the soccer and tennis teams, and was recently named one of the three valedictorians for the class of 2014. He has enjoyed competing at the state level in Science Olympiads and Skills USA, and at the national level in DECA and Construction Challenge, and is always interested in a fun talent show act singing with his friends or juggling with his fellow Scouts.

He is also involved in the youth group at Chippewa Valley Bible Church. In his spare time, he works at Jimmy John's and enjoys juggling and building things in the workshop. He plans to major in Mechanical Engineering next year at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

In Scouting, David has led the 32-member troop on several campouts during his term as Senior Patrol Leader, and has also held the positions of Scribe, Bugler, Instructor and Patrol Leader while participating in over 40 troop campouts during his six years with the troop. He holds the Troop 72 record for most high-adventure experiences: two trips to Philmont in New Mexico (65 miles and 180 miles of Rocky Mountain backpacking), two trips to Northern Tier in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (55 and 75 miles of paddling and portaging), and a hundred-mile canoe trip (HUMICAT), during which he led 24 Scouts and dads paddling the rivers of Northern Wisconsin for a week.

David was elected to Order of the Arrow, the "honor society" of Scouting, and has been to National Youth Leader Training. Perhaps his greatest adventure in Scouting has been Philmont's Rayado, the "Ultimate Wilderness Challenge," a 20-day journey where he backpacked for 180 miles in the Sangre de Cristo Range of the Rocky Mountains.

For his Eagle project, David led a team of Scouts in building a play set for a Habitat for Humanity home in Eau Claire.

The public is invited to the Court of Honor Sunday.
