Sam is the son of Larry and Kim Hoffman of Chippewa Falls. He is a senior at "Chi-Hi" (Chippewa Falls Senior High School) where he plays cello in the orchestra and is on the tennis team.

In his spare time, Sam enjoys slack-lining, personal fitness, hunting, fishing, reading, and traveling. Next year he plans on attending the University of Minnesota-Duluth, with the hopes of being an Air Force officer.

In Scouting, Sam has led the 30-member troop on several campouts during his term as Senior Patrol Leader, and has also held the positions of Chaplain's Aid, Troop Instructor, and Patrol Leader. Last summer, Sam was the crew leader for one of Troop 72's two crews at Philmont in New Mexico, featuring 72 miles of backpacking in the Rocky Mountains.

Samuel was elected to Order of the Arrow, the "honor society" of Scouting, and has been to National Youth Leader Training one year as a particpant and one year as a staff member.

For his Eagle project, Sam led a team of Scouts in building three wooden benches that were placed along the trails in the upper level of Irvine Park. Sam is the fourth and last son of the Hoffman family brothers to attain the rank of Eagle Scout.
