Simon Arneberg to be awarded Eagle Scout rank

Eagle Court of Honor scheduled for Sunday, November 26, 2017

The highest award from the Boy Scouts of America -- the rank of Eagle Scout -- will be awarded Sunday, November 26 to a Scout in Troop 72 of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

Simon Arneberg, 17, will receive the Eagle Award in a Court of Honor ceremony at 1:30 p.m. that Sunday at Chippewa Valley Bible Church, 531 E. South Ave., Chippewa Falls. All are welcome.

Simon is the son of Tom and Beth Arneberg of Chippewa Falls, and is the fourth brother in his family to achieve the Eagle Scout rank. (His sister and brothers will all be part of the ceremony). He is a senior at "Chi-Hi" (Chippewa Falls Senior High School) where he is active in marching band and jazz band, and has played soccer and tennis and ran cross country. Simon also loves competing in Science Olympiads and math contests, and is a regular on the talent contest stage, including acts with fellow Scouts (CJ and the Boys and a juggling act).

He is also involved in the youth group at Chippewa Valley Bible Church.

In Scouting, Simon has led the 32-member troop on several campouts during his term as Senior Patrol Leader, and has also held the positions of Scribe, Bugler, and Patrol Leader while participating in 56 weekend campouts during his seven years with the troop. In addition, Simon attended summer camp for six years and has completed five high-adventure experiences, including two treks at Philmont in New Mexico (72 miles and 105 miles of Rocky Mountain backpacking), a trip to Northern Tier in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (75 miles of paddling and 33 portages), a hundred-mile canoe trip (HUMICAT) in Northern Wisconsin, and a 463-mile bicycle trip to Milwaukee.

Simon was elected to Order of the Arrow, the "honor society" of Scouting, and has been to National Youth Leader Training.

For his Eagle project, Simon led a team of Scouts in teaching the youth at the Boys & Girls Club how to build their own PVC Pipe Instrument like the one Simon used to win the 2016 Chi-Hi Talent Contest.

The public is invited to the Court of Honor Sunday.
