On Saturday, August 25, 2001, the boys of
Troop 72, of
Chippewa Valley Bible Church,
built a monkey bridge at Kamp Kenwood on Lake Wissota.
We chose the time and location
so that the children at the CVBC church picnic the next following day
could all try out the bridge and see what these boys are capable of
building!
None of us boys or leaders had ever built a monkey bridge, but we followed the excellent instructions in the Pioneering Merit Badge pamphlet for a double-A frame bridge, and had no problems getting it up and working in 4-5 hours, including cutting down the dead trees, cutting the lashing rope to size and whipping the ends, etc. We had a great time, and would highly recommend this type of project to any other troop! (Our troop is only five months old, and consists entirely of boys 11-13 years old, none of whom have ever been in scouts before, so if our troop can do it, anyone can!) |
