Troop 72 at Philmont 2014: Day 2
June 27 through July 11, 2014, the Scouts of Troop72.com embarked on the greatest adventure in Scouting: PHILMONT!

Day 2 (6/29/14): Base camp to Old Abreu (elev. 7407)

Much of our prep work was pushed into Day 2 because of our late Amtrak arrival yesterday. We finally hit the trail in late afternoon and backpacked 2 miles to the Old Abreu unstaffed campsite. Mendota, Illinois to catch the Amtrak, stopping at a food court and at an REI in Madison. The boys LOVED riding the rails! We arrived a few hours late, but Philmont is used to dealing with that.
