Troop 72 at Philmont 2014: Day 8
June 27 through July 11, 2014, the Scouts of Troop72.com embarked on the greatest adventure in Scouting: PHILMONT!

Day 8 (7/05/14): Black Mountain to Cypher's Mine (elev. 9234)

We hiked out of Black Mountain -- the only staffed campsite WITHOUT a "swap box" for food, since the campsite was so hard to get to (a mile from the nearest road, with an 800-foot verticle) -- and crossed Commanche Creek dozens of times until we reached Cypher's Mine. This was our one chance on this trip to sleep in a CABIN! Actually, it was just three walls and a concrete floor, but it was still fun to all sleep together, and to have a perfectly flat surface for a change. We toured an actual gold mine, did some panning for gold, and thoroughly enjoyed "The STOMP," a musical performance reminiscent of an old western mining town.

Here are a some photos I took with my FZ50 camera.
