Troop 72 at Philmont 2014: Day 12

June 27 through July 11, 2014, the Scouts of Troop72.com embarked on the greatest adventure in Scouting: PHILMONT!

Day 12 (7/09/14): Upper Clark's Fork to BASE CAMP (via Tooth of Time)

This was our BIG DAY! Loaded down with at least eight quarts of water per person, we packed up our tents and hit the trail at 6:06 a.m. We did a few side hikes along the way up a couple of mountains (including Schafer's Peak, elev. 9413), before launching our biggest assault: The TOOTH OF TIME! This is the most visible symbol of Philmont, and we made it to the very top! We spent a lot of time up there taking photos and enjoying the view. From there it was a long and winding road down to basecamp. According to my smart watch, we walked a total of 17 miles that day. At base camp, after cleaning and returning all our Philmont gear, we retrieved our personal gear from our storage locker, got our base-camp tents, and enjoyed hot showers, laundromat, snack bar, and gift shop before the closing campfire. WE MADE IT!!
